Department of Transportation Changes coming in 2025
Department of Transportation Changes coming in 2025

PHMSA random selection will be going from 25% to 50% in 2025

No changes for FAA or FTA

Still waiting to hear from FMCSA and FRA

FMCSA is mandating anyone who tests positive to go through follow-up testing in order to get their CDL re-instated; if they see that these changes decrease incidents they will move to drop current standards from 50% back down to 25%

They are also doing away with MC numbers so prepare yourself for that change-they are hoping this will alleviate all the fraud happening in the trucking industry!

4 more ELD's have been revoked from the registered list in December: Mountain ELD, XELD, MasterELD, and Columbus ELD; be sure to find a new system if you are currently utilizing any of these.  You can find the approved systems here: https://eld.fmcsa.dot.gov/List

Reminder that Oral Fluid Collection for DOT has been passed and training has started as of December 5th; remember that urine and oral are two different types of training; you cannot perform either of the tests without proper training in both areas.  If you are urine certified you can only collect urine; if you are oral certified you can only collect oral fluid.  Oral fluid cannot be tested until TWO HHS laboratories are certified which there currently are none; so, though it has passed, it is still not authorized!

Some of the delayed rulemakings are as follows:

  • Automatic Emergency Braking Systems - January 2025

  • Truck speed limiter rule - May 2025

  • ELD requirements for pre-2000 engines - June 2025

  • DQ standards for drivers with epilepsy - June 2025

Thank you all for your continued dedication to this country of ours and staying safe in our transportation needs!  Stay tuned for more updates as they come out!
